How should I proceed to visit one of my relatives placed in custody?
First of all, you must apply for a visitation permit to the judge in charge of the investigation or to the district attorney (in case of a pre-trial detention) or to the head of the penitentiary (if the sentence is final).
You must provide the following documents:
– A copy of your ID
– 2 recent ID pictures
– a letter in which you explain the family connections you have with the prisoner
– Eventually a proof of your relationship (family record book)
– A proof of address
Secondly, you must check with the penitentiary if your application has been received and book a visiting room.
